THE ORDER OF THE ACHARYAS OF BABAJI’S KRIYA YOGA

Mission: To promote the teachings of Babaji’s Kriya Yoga throughout the world through lectures, public classes, initiation seminars, and retreats given by accredited teachers (acharyas). Babaji’s Kriya Yoga is a scientific art of realizing Truth and God. It represents the practical side of all religions and is therefore non-sectarian. It is intended for everyone, regardless of their religious ideals. It represents the teachings of Satguru Kriya Babaji Nagaraj and the tradition of the 18 Siddhas of Kriya Yoga of India.

History and current activities:  The Order of Acharyas of Babaji’s Kriya Yoga was officially founded in the United States, Quebec, Canada, and India in 1997 as the Order of Acharyas of Babaji’s Kriya Yoga, Inc. The U.S., Canadian, and Indian tax authorities have granted tax exemption due to its charitable status. The mission of the Order is to promote the teaching of Babaji’s Kriya Yoga throughout the world through lectures, public classes, initiation seminars, and retreats given by qualified teachers authorized to teach « acharyas. » They follow the standards established by the Kriya Yoga teaching, a demanding discipline for their Kriya Yoga practice, and a code of ethics as a yoga teacher. Babaji and Yogi Ramaiah asked Marshall Gonvindan, the Founding President, to establish the Order in 1986. In 1954, Babaji initiated Yogi Ramaiah near Badrinath in the Himalayas. Yogi Ramaiah taught all aspects of Babaji’s Kriya Yoga to Mr. Govindan Satchidananda from 1970 to 1988. For 18 years, Mr. Govindan practiced 8 hours a day.

The Order has ashrams in Quebec, Canada, Bangalore, India, and Sri Lanka. A new ashram is under construction in Badrinath in the Himalayas. The ashrams welcome yoga students seeking an environment suited to their yogic practice (sadhana). Babaji’s Kriya Yoga Ashram, located near Eastman, Quebec, is one of the most beautiful ashrams in the world. Founded in 1992, it offers retreats and seminars year-round. It is located atop a mountain and offers panoramic views of the surrounding mountains and rainforest. Its 16 hectares include a lake and hiking trails in the forest. It is a place of peace and seclusion that offers all modern comforts and can accommodate up to 28 people.

The Order’s 38 acharyas lead free yoga classes and introductory seminars in more than a dozen countries. In India, it publishes and distributes manuscripts produced by the Yoga Siddha Research Center. It also organizes pilgrimages to sacred sites associated with the Siddha tradition in southern India and the Himalayas.

Through a network of more than 20,000 initiates in around twenty countries, the Order also organizes numerous seminars, retreats, training courses and group meetings.

Yoga Siddha Research Centre : Since 2000, the Order has sponsored and guided the work of the Yoga Siddha Research Centre in Chennai, Tamil Nadu, India. This research centre collects, preserves, transcribes, and translates ancient palm-leaf manuscripts of the 18 Yoga Siddha tradition of India, with commentaries. The Order publishes these works and distributes them in India and internationally. It also sponsors researchers working for the centre at various academic conferences. To date, seven major works have been published. In 2010, the Order published a new English translation with commentaries of the most important text on South Indian Yoga: the Tirumandiram , written by the Yoga Siddha Tirumular, in ten volumes, 3,780 pages. A new edition was published in 2013 in five volumes. Dr. TNP Haran has prepared a book as a guide to the 750 manuscripts of the Yoga Siddhas’ poems. They were released on two CDs with this book in January 2016.
